When Jesus heals the epileptic in Mark 9:14-29 – we see the power and hold of Satan on this child. We see the struggle and inadequacy of our own flesh in the boy’s father.
We must be careful not to make the mistake that this father made. If we come to Jesus with casual expectations we can see Him simply as someone greater than us, an amazing teacher, a worker of mighty works. Rather, our faith must rest in the fact that Jesus Christ is God himself, the sovereign King of all creation who is completely different from us. In Jesus Christ we see the Savior who came down from heaven to deliver us thoroughly and completely.
And yet, we can be thankful that this father shows us what real faith looks like, weak though it was.
